From Mr Sidney August Cammeresi, IV. Sir, Central banking, an institution Michael Diekmann praises ("The swing to the state must not go too far", December 22), is at the heart of most of our economic problems, both now and past. But regardless of central banking's efficacy, an important question to ask regarding that institution is: Why is it moral and just for a government to inflate away my wealth, to slowly and stealthily destroy the value of my money, to confiscate the property that is mine by right, and to give it as loot to enterprises that are self-admitted failures? If more people realise the evil inherent in central banking and support a return to banking based on objective standards instead of the whims of bureaucrats, the world will see economic growth on a scale not seen for a century.
