One would think that a news story headed by `Lib Dems want to axe Council Tax' would be a good story, and indeed, it begins by saying that the UK's Lib Dems are pledging to cut £100 from everyone's Council Tax bill as the local elections battle hots up and on the heels of the tax's rise this year under Labour.
But actually, they don't want to just cut it; they want to abolish it and replace it with a new local income tax to the tune of some three per cent. As one would expect, any fixed, non-progressive tax is, according to Mr Charles Kennedy, unfair to people of modest incomes, and those who make more should have more of their property stolen from them.

Amazing as it may sound, when a law school lowers its admissions standards by making race a factor in admissions determinations, fewer students manage to complete the program. At the University of Memphis, black students are given preferential treatment, and only 67 per cent of them complete the program, compared to 88 per cent for all students.

And now the goodies begin to emerge from Iraq.
Abu al Khasib, Iraq (CNN) -- A torture chamber equipped with hooks hanging from ceilings and an on-site electrocution room has been found in the basement of an Iraqi police station, an embedded reporter with the BBC reports.
Why do the voices of Amnesty International, et al. remain silent?
