The glorification of toil —
I didn't actually realise the name of this newspaper zine was the People's Weekly World, but given that I'm sitting in a coffee shop in St Paul, which means, by definition, that I'm sitting in a sea of Marxism, I had a pretty good idea what would be in store for me. I found reading this...entity...somewhat entertaining, but I've got an editorial suggestion to help spice things up a bit. Let me quote the first sentence from two separate stories on pages one and three respectively:
Campaigning in Toledo, Ohio, Sept. 14, Democrat John Kerry articulated the hope and the anger that workers and their families are feeling.
These days, with Bush in the White House and Congress locked down under Republican control, a legislative victory for workers is rare.
I recommend these sentences be changed as follows:
Campaigning in Toledo, Ohio, Sept. 14, Democrat John Kerry articulated the hope and the anger that toilers and their families are feeling.
These days, with Bush in the White House and Congress locked down under Republican control, a legislative victory for toilers is rare.
(And by the way, who is not a worker? Oh, it must be those people like investors, which, as Mr Tracinski noted in this month's TIA, perform no useful function, according to 1920s-era Progressives.)
My justification for demanding this is that I am a worker and I want it, dammit.
